Valentines Day

Feburary 14th is coming soon, Valentines day... Does anyone celebrate it?

I never have.  Except of course when I worked in a florist when I was 16, mind you though it wasn't really celebration as much as overworked.

When I watch much of American tv, I see when wives get upset because husbands forget Valentines day or their Anniversary.  I don't know about you, but this seems kind of silly to me.  Are they saying that the only day that you can share love with your wife/husband are on these days?

I share love with my husband every day, we make time everyday to just have some us time, it doesn't have to be outside the house, it just simply is that we might lie in bed a talk, we might cook dinner together or we might after the boys have gone to bed, just sit on the couch and have a cuddle.

Everyday together is special to us, so if David were to forget Valentines Day or our Anniversary, it doesn't matter.  It's not overly important.  He brings me gifts throughout the year, and to be honest it's not the actual present that means a lot to me, it's the emotions and feelings behind the gifts.

I read a book once called "The five Love Languages" by Gary Chapman.  And I really think that this is true, regardless of being a Christian or not.  The book tells of five languages that we speak with our partners they are touch, gifts, acts of service, words of affirmation and Quality time.  My love language is Quality time, I like to spend time with my husband, we don't have to do anything like go out or anything, I just like to be able to spend time one on one with him.  And David's love language is touch, so he likes it when I give him back tickles, or hold his hand.

So when we practice these love languages throughout the year, we don't need to have a big thing made of these particular days.  Yes it's nice to celebrate together on our anniversary but I just don't see it as a big deal if it doesn't happen.

What do you all think? Is Valentines day important or is it just commercial?

Love you all

  1. I love valentines day because I am a hopeless romantic...but is it important? NO. Like you I celebrate or show my love in small ways everyday. I think it is more geared towards singles in the hope of finding someone that maybe it might make someone brave enough to make a move that normally wouldnt...but...i have no hestitation in loving it...I have always seen my expression of love or like for something much like that of Kind David in the bible dancing in the streets...I am happy to run around telling people how happy I am or in love etc cause why not??!! haha And it flatters my husband which rubs his ego which in turn benefits me haha...it is very sad however when people get dissapointed if their husbands forget...i reckon if ya make a man feel like a man, he will make you feel like a woman ....and for me...its that quality time where im made to feel special...i just love love...im a hopeless romantic...hit me now!! haha
